Then It Was Fall

Today is one of my favorite kinds of days with just enough breeze blowing through our screen doors to feel the slight touch of chill in the air, and Jack busying about the stove, preparing for "a little fire" later on this evening. While it might seem a little early to light the kindling on the coming season, I found myself scratching around in the closet, looking for my favorite light fleece jacket earlier today, but I'm enough like my Ma-Ma Harris to need sleeves when temperatures start dipping below 70 degrees.

Jack and Pam at the Lake have spent much of the afternoon watching football, cheering our Tennessee Titans to one of the ugliest victories I've seen in awhile. Not many teams can squander a two-touchdown lead in the last four minutes of a game without fans starting to set things on fire and throw them to the field. At least they pulled out a victory in some exciting overtime play.

Our local high school team, the DeKalb County Tigers, is 6-0 this season, having won its homecoming game on Friday night. Jack and I didn't go to the game, but we did go to the parade Friday afternoon to support our black and gold. We carried the cameras and caught some of the action...

The marching crew is much smaller now than when I was a member of the Fighting Tiger Marching Band, but these kids sound great. What they lack in number, they make up for in sound. Once the parade had wrapped and the pep rally in front of the courthouse started, both Jack and I were impressed with how GOOD the band is to only have a double-handful of members.

The members of the homecoming queen and court seem to get younger and younger with each passing year. I remember when some of these hot chicks were born.

Cheerleading has come quite a long way from "back in the day" with all kinds of crazy acrobatics being added to their routines. Exciting as it is, all I could do, as I watched these little girls fly through the air, is hope neither Lucia nor Beatrice ever want to engage in an activity which involves getting slung aloft by their team-mates, shot from a cannon, or launched into space, unless NASA is overseeing the situation.

Have a great week, everyone!!
