A Fish Lunch for Friday

Happy weekend, everybody!

Cold weather has returned to remind us that we're still technically having "winter", though in comparison to recent years, this one has been quite mild with practically no snow and temperatures that have rarely dipped below twenty degrees. I'm not complaining - every now and then we all need a break - but snow IS pretty and makes for some great photos. There's still a chance we'll get a blizzard between now and April, but at this point, the possibility gets less likely with each passing day.

Other than busy work and waiting for Spring, we haven't had much going on, though we did manage to do a major purge of our closets a couple of weeks ago and donated six big bags of old clothing to Goodwill.

For your viewing pleasure is a series of photos Jack took earlier this week of a blue heron eating lunch...

Here's the heron waiting for a fish...

"Got it!!"

The fish flopped around, but the heron kept it tightly clamped in his powerful beak...

After several moments, the heron got the fish into his mouth - head-first.

The heron then began working the whole fish, which was still squirming and twisting, down its long, flexible neck --

That's a lot to swallow!!
